For some, ‘opportunity knocks’ in later life! Such it was for me – that chance to play the all-important 3rd Cornet with the additional lure of a trip to Bad Gandersheim should I join Skegness Silver Band – well that was how our MD sold it to me….
And here I am 3 years or so later – the Germany trip thoroughly enjoyed and still holding on to that 3rd Cornet seat!
There is no history of music in my life, apart from an enjoyment of listening to a wide range. Having retired from a job that occupied all my ‘spare’ time, I was determined to make full use of any new opportunities. So I started to learn about reading music and how to play the cornet , then I joined the band… I enjoy ‘tackling’ the wide range of music that we play and am very grateful to those folks around me that help count all those in-between bars and make sure that my rhythm is the right one!
