Brian’s father taught him to play the Trombone at the age of 8. He claims he didn’t make a great deal of progress until his father was appointed MD at Pleasley Colliery Band. They had need of a Baritone for a contest and Brian was drafted in. Suddenly he found he enjoyed it, and whilst he returned to the Trombone for a while, he finally settled on the Euphonium as his instrument of choice. He has racked up an impressive 72 years of playing for bands which include the Creswell Colliery Band, the Morris Motors Band, which incorporated being part of Harry Mortimer’s Men’o Brass and, finding himself back on home turf again, he became a member of the Ransome & Marles Works Band, where he remained until the band ceased to exist. Skegness Silver Band pounced on my musical inactivity and that’s where I play today!
