Lucy began playing the cornet at age four with Lofthouse and Middlesmoor Silver Prize Band in Nidderdale, Yorkshire, and progressed to flugelhorn player by ten years old. Whilst at school she started learning the french horn and then attended the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama to study the french horn. After two years at the RSAMD, she left to attend Lancaster University to complete a degree in Ethnomusicology.
Since leaving Lancaster she has played with numberous brass bands and orchestras and has qualified as a teacher. After moving to Lincolnshire, she joined Skegness Silver Band in September 2014 as flugelhorn player and continues to enjoy playing with the band.
